Hooray. The Easter long weekend is only 4 weeks away!

It’s only human to need something positive to look forward to.

Like that classic Easybeats’ song Friday On My Mind: Monday morning feels so bad, everybody seems to nag me, by Tuesday I’ll be better…

If you work a Monday to Friday schedule, today—Wednesday— is your ‘hump day’. Get over this midweek marker and you’re on the downhill run to the weekend.

But in a blink, the weekend will be gone and you’ll be anticipating to the next, and the next… and before you know it, you’ll be saying ‘sayonara 2016’.

How would you like to be able to take an instant vacation?

Oh, I hear you: you have deadlines, commitments, responsibilities. And let’s not forget the cost… you can’t possibly just take off!  Well actually, you can…

Forget applying for leave or booking accommodation or flights, or filling up the petrol tank. You don’t need a passport or a visa either. I’m talking instant.

Dr Madan Kataria, the Indian physician who devised laughter yoga in 1995, is well known for saying “Laughter yoga is like an instant vacation”. So too comedian Milton Berle and actor Bob Hope.

Actually, according to Quote Investigator, the analogy was captured in print way back in 1968 like this:

There is a purifying power in laughter. It is truth in palatable form. It is instant vacation. Seeing the comical side of many situations makes life a great deal easier. It’s like riding through life on sensitive springs that ease every jolt.

For the uninitiated, laughter yoga can feel odd. Silly even.

After all, there are no jokes. It’s not stand-up comedy. We initially laugh for no reason, practising simulated laughter exercises, blended with deep yogic breathing, gentle stretches, a chant here, some clapping there…And the laughter becomes contagious.

If you can give in to the laughter—allow yourself to just go with it—you will enjoy that relaxed holiday feeling after just one laughter yoga session.

Yes, just one. That’s little more than 30 minutes.

Your body will be flowing with happy hormones.

You’ll be in the ‘now’—not worrying about what was or will be.

You’ll feel energised. You’re likely to be more productive; perhaps more creative in problem-solving too.
